[a little piece of mexico]

Another day, another mexican restaurant opening. They are popping up everywhere!  Mexican fare is on trend in the kitchen and so too is it's colourful textiles and furniture for the home.
It's a style that is celebrated through indigenous embroidery, richly coloured walls and ornaments such as crosses, winged hearts and brightly painted Day of the Dead folk art.  In the modern home, these bold additions are used sparingly alongside crisp white walls and rustic timbers.

[little abode update: sideboard & deer head]

Things have been a little hectic around here to say the least.
Today we hit the 3 week countdown til the wedding and with so many things still on the to-do list, my little blog has been somewhat neglected!

I had decided a while ago that I would really love to get ready for the wedding at our unit.
The little space that we have put oh so much time and effort into over the last 12 months is really beginning to take shape and has never felt more like home.
This has put the teeniest tiniest bit more pressure on us to get it looking schmick for the day but all and all I'm happy that it's getting done!

He's a few little updates...
My DIY deer head

Still a few more things to hang and style which I hope to have time to share with you before the day.
Best be off.
Hair and make-up trial today and then birthday dinner with Daniel San!

[vintage sideboard styling]

We won, we won!
A fabulous vintage sideboard!
Looks fantastic in our little unit but still in need of a little styling.
Stacked books, framed art leaning against the wall and plenty of curios are on the cards...

A great excuse to spend some time trawling through antique and op-shops!
Not that I ever need an excuse!

Five weeks to go as of this Saturday!!! Ahhhh!

[dining chair reconnaissance]

Dan's friend bought his first home.
He was over the other night and asked if I would accompany him furniture shopping.
What girl would say no to that!

With a little time on my hands the other day I began investigating looks for his dining space - because I'm pretty sure most men really care about what their dining space looks like.
My first thought - An industrial style with Tolix chairs paired with a lovely wooden dining table to add a little warmth.
They come in so many delicious colours too!

Or there's the more organic look of the mid-century classic Wishbone chair.
(Side-note: enjoying the wall collage)

And finally the Eames Shell chair.
I gather he's unlikely to select an array of colours but isn't it a gorgeously unique setting!

This shopping for others could get dangerous.
I'm looking at our own dining space and dreaming of a facelift.
I'm sure Dan wouldn't notice if a few lovely duck-egg blue powder-coated tolix chairs were to magically replace of our white wooden cross-backs!

[looky what she won on ebay...]

Daniel San and I have been searching for a cast iron garden set for little while now.
I very nearly had him convinced that we should buy a similar set at a second hand shop in Brunswick Heads last time we were visiting.
Lucky we didn't.  We found this baby on ebay and at $41 it was ours!
It was the first time I'd ever bid on anything and you should have seen what an anxious mess I was with 10 minutes to go, on my phone, on a saturday night, in a cocktail lounge.
This morning we took a little drive down the coast to collect our win.

There's no doubt it needs a little love - all the more fun I say.
I've been on the Dulux website creating my powder-coating colour shortlist.
Rather than sticking with the traditional white, I was thinking either a pale apricot, greeny/mint or turquoisey/jade colour.

We're really looking forward to having our morning cuppa on the balcony - our outdoor space still needs a little attention!
Which colour would you choose?!

[vintage trunk find the third]

...and then there were three!  My vintage trunk family is complete with baby (who's even a little chubbier than the others)!
This is the little goodie I purchased yesterday at the antique centre.  Like father like son, I also purchased the first of my collection at the same place.  The second trunk however I picked up on our trip to Noosa last year.
He's a little rusty here and there and has a few loose stitches but I think his lovely blue colour allows you to look beyond these imperfections!
This is what I also bought... a selection of old knitting needles for my newly rekindled skill!
...and finally a drawer handle for when I get around to refurbishing the bedside table in the guest room.  I was immediately attracted to the watermelony/corally colour of the glass.
Just another project added to my never-ending list!
Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

[one delicious chair]

Lovely furniture makes my heart flutter.
Like this beautifully restored piece by Judy from Verandah House Interiors.
The bold floral print is perfection and I adore the contrasting blue and white stripes on the arms.
I can completely understand why she found it difficult to part with it when presenting it back to the client.
I found a beautiful bentwood rocking chair a Vinnies not that long ago that needs this very look.
I'll be sure to post pics of her "before" shoot soon.
Happy hump day everyone! Jx
